What you will learn

  •  Introduction to equipment, safety aspects, basic paddling techniques for flat and flowing water, rescue techniques and river scouting

Knowledge of the equipment:

  • Correct air pressure (boat and seat), back support, foot support and knee straps.

  • Types of spray skirts, paddles, life jackets, helmets, throwbags and their uses

  • Other clothing: Wet suit, dry suit or woolen underwear and rain gear.

Paddling technique adapted to Packraft:

  • Sitting position

  • Propulsion ceiling: Use the "whole" body, paddle closely and vertically.

  • Sweeping roof: Extends and rears.

  • Paddling backwards: Important to master when traveling on a river, as well as a good warm-up.

  • Lateral displacement

  • Low supports: Stabilization technique that is kind to the shoulders.

  • Edge the boat: Important in and out of currents and backwaters, in rollers etc.

  • Traversing/crossing a river

  • Changing direction in the river

Safety:

  • Out of boat, technique to not get stuck.

  • Entering the boat from the water: Primary rescue technique with pack power

  • Camera rescue in the river: Important rescue technique when several people are paddling together

  • Practical use of line: Towing and rescue.

  • Swimming in river. Do not stand in the river! Floating position.

  • Visualization of the river before own paddling

  • Use of and requirements for safety equipment to be found in the group (two or more paddlers).

  • Brief about packing Packraft and safety in the river (inside, up, up)

Theory: (blends into natural breaks)

  • River lore with theory about the different formations encountered on the river.

  • Signs and signals. How the group can communicate at a distance.

  • Clothing, swimming in the river and Hypothermia.

  • Shoulder awareness, paddle inside the box.

  • The superman feeling, special for Packraft. What are you not good enough for?

 

Whats included:

  • Packraft, paddle and all safety and immersion equipment and protection

  • NPF Packraftgrunnkurs certification

  • A qualified and experienced NPF instructor

 

What you will need:

  • Your own thermals, wool socks, and shoes that can get wet

  • Change of dry clothing and extra warm layers

  • Lunch and snacks for both days
